Missing a UAE Corporate Tax return deadline does not mean you have lost the opportunity to file. You can still submit the overdue return through EmaraTax and address applicable penalties and any unpaid tax. The priority is to confirm the correct tax period, prepare accurate accounts and complete the outstanding filing promptly—not to ignore the account or submit unsupported figures just to close the task.
Can you file a Corporate Tax return after the deadline?
Yes. An overdue Corporate Tax return can still be submitted. Late filing does not cancel the obligation to report your business’s tax position. A taxable person or its authorised representative should prepare the return for the correct period and submit it through EmaraTax, retaining the acknowledgement and supporting records.
Filing and payment are separate responsibilities. Submitting a return does not pay the tax, and paying tax does not submit a return. Review both your outstanding returns and your account liabilities so that one completed step is not mistaken for full compliance.
You can still file, but applicable penalties may remain payable. Late submission is not an automatic penalty waiver.
Check your actual deadline—not just a September reminder
The normal Corporate Tax filing and payment deadline is nine months after the end of the relevant tax period, unless an applicable FTA decision provides otherwise. Your business’s registered financial year and tax period matter; 30 September is not the deadline for every UAE business.
For a tax period ending 31 December 2025, the normal deadline was 30 September 2026. A business with a different year-end may have a different deadline. Check the period displayed in EmaraTax and any applicable FTA notice before deciding that a return is overdue.
What penalty applies to late Corporate Tax return filing?
FTA guidance states a late-return penalty of AED 500 for each month or part of a month during the first 12 months of delay, increasing to AED 1,000 for each month or part from the thirteenth month onward. A part-month counts: do not assume that filing a few days late is penalty-free.
For example, if a return due on 30 September is filed on 19 October, it is within the first month of delay. The late-return penalty under that schedule is AED 500. This example covers only late filing; it does not include unpaid Corporate Tax, separate late-payment penalties or other violations. Confirm the actual assessment in EmaraTax and the legislation applicable to your period.
Government penalties are separate from professional filing fees. Tax Easy UAE filing support starts from AED 499; this does not include FTA penalties or the tax payable.
What if the company has no profit or owes no tax?
A nil tax liability does not automatically remove the filing obligation. A registered taxable company may still need to report its results when it has made a loss, has no activity or qualifies for a relief. Free-zone status is also not, by itself, permission to skip a return.
Prepare figures supported by the books and assess any available relief or treatment against its conditions. Do not assume that an inactive licence, a bank balance of zero or income below a tax threshold is enough to justify an unsupported nil return.
Your practical late-filing action plan
- Log in to EmaraTax and confirm the Corporate Tax TRN, period and deadline
- Check which returns, payments and penalties are outstanding
- Collect the trial balance, financial statements, bank records and source documents
- Reconcile sales, expenses, owner transactions and related-party balances
- Review tax adjustments, disclosures and any relief eligibility
- Approve the completed return and submit it for the correct period
- Save the submission acknowledgement and arrange payment of assessed liabilities
- Set reminders for the next accounting close, filing date and payment deadline
Documents to prepare before requesting filing support
If the books are incomplete, flag this at the start. Backlog bookkeeping and reconciliations may be needed before a reliable return can be prepared. Sharing incomplete records early is better than discovering a material gap just before submission.
- Trade licence, Corporate Tax registration details and portal period information
- Financial statements or trial balance covering the full tax period
- Bank statements, sales invoices and expense evidence
- VAT returns and reconciliations where the company is VAT-registered
- Payroll, fixed-asset schedules, loans and owner or related-party transactions
- Any FTA notices, previous submissions and penalty assessments
Does the late-registration waiver cover a missed return?
Do not confuse late registration with late return filing. The FTA’s first-period initiative concerning a return submitted within seven months of the first tax period’s end addresses late-registration penalties subject to its conditions. It is not a blanket waiver of late-return penalties and does not replace the normal filing deadline.
If you believe an assessment is incorrect or you may qualify for a specific relief, have the facts and applicable process reviewed. Reconsideration or waiver requests depend on legal conditions and evidence; approval cannot be promised.
