What UAE Relocation & Tax Advisory Covers
Relocation tax advisory is the planning layer around your move: how your personal tax residency changes, how your existing income and assets are treated, which UAE structure fits your plans, and which registrations and filings follow. It is not a visa or immigration service — it is the tax and compliance planning that makes the rest of the move work financially.
- Personal tax residency planning under the UAE's 183-day and 90-day residence tests.
- Home-country exit considerations — residential status, departure-year filings and double tax treaty positions (reviewed alongside your home-country adviser where needed).
- Mainland vs free zone company setup guidance matched to your activity and clients.
- Corporate Tax and VAT registration planning so your new entity is compliant from its first period.
- Bookkeeping, payroll and ongoing compliance setup for the new structure.
Your Personal Tax Position After the Move
The UAE does not levy personal income tax on salaries or most personal investment income. However, becoming non-taxable in your home country is a separate question — it depends on that country's residence rules, your days of presence, ties and income sources. A UAE residence visa alone does not automatically end a home-country tax obligation.
Under Cabinet Decision No. 85 of 2022, an individual is generally a UAE tax resident if they are physically present in the UAE for 183 days or more in a 12-month period, or — in defined cases — for 90 days or more where they hold UAE/GCC nationality or a UAE residence permit and have a permanent place of residence or carry on employment or business in the UAE. Where the conditions are met, a Tax Residency Certificate (TRC) can be requested from the FTA to support treaty positions abroad.
The most expensive relocation mistakes happen on the home-country side: an unplanned departure year, retained directorships or property, or a treaty position that was never documented. We map both sides of the move before you commit to dates.
Setting Up Your Business the Right Way
Most relocating founders choose between a mainland licence and one of the UAE's free zones such as IFZA, DMCC, Meydan or SHAMS. The right choice depends on where your customers are, whether you need to trade onshore, visa requirements and cost — not on which option is advertised the loudest.
| Decision | What We Assess |
|---|---|
| Mainland vs free zone | Customer location, onshore trading needs, activity list and visa quota |
| Corporate Tax position | 9% rate above AED 375,000 taxable income; Small Business Relief where revenue is AED 3 million or less |
| Free zone 0% rate | Whether the entity can genuinely meet Qualifying Free Zone Person conditions |
| VAT | Mandatory registration at AED 375,000 taxable supplies; voluntary from AED 187,500 |
| Banking & substance | Documentation banks and the FTA expect for a real operating presence |
Once the structure is chosen, we handle the tax registrations: Corporate Tax registration with TRN issuance, and VAT registration where thresholds or plans require it.
Staying Compliant After You Land
Relocation is the start of the compliance calendar, not the end of it. A new UAE entity needs clean books from its first invoice, an annual Corporate Tax return filed within nine months of its financial year-end, and VAT returns on its assigned tax periods.
- Bookkeeping & accounting on Zoho, Xero or QuickBooks from day one.
- Corporate Tax filing with Small Business Relief and QFZP assessment.
- VAT return filing every tax period, reconciled and submitted on EmaraTax.
- Payroll management with WPS-compliant salary processing as you hire.
- Deadline tracking and reminders so nothing is missed while you focus on the business.
